Android apps & games

Android app development, from idea to Google Play.

Apps and games built with Flutter, Unity or native Android, and published on Google Play. We ship our own, so we know the whole road, including the parts after the code.

Who it’s for.

Businesses that want an app their customers keep on their phone, founders with an app idea who need someone to build and publish it, and anyone who wants a game made properly, especially for children, where adverts and pushy purchases have no place.

What we build.

Apps for businesses and their customers, and games, including family-friendly, ad-free games for young children.

Flutter, Unity or native?

The right tool depends on the app. Flutter builds Android and iPhone apps from one codebase, which makes it a sensible default for most business apps. Unity is built for games, with physics, animation and scenes. Native Android (Kotlin) makes sense when the app leans heavily on the phone’s own features.

We’ll recommend one at the start and explain why, in plain English, before you commit to anything.

Getting onto Google Play.

Writing the app is only part of the job. Publishing means a developer account, a store listing with icon, feature graphic and screenshots, a content rating, a data safety form and a privacy policy. Newer personal developer accounts must also run a closed test with real testers before they can release to everyone. Apps for children have extra rules on top.

We do all of that for our own apps, so we can handle it for yours or walk you through it.

Before you build.

Search Google Play for your idea first: if similar apps exist, read their reviews, because the complaints tell you what people want. Then decide how the app will pay for itself. It could be free as part of your business, a one-off price (Mossypips is £2.99, once), or a subscription. Google takes a service fee on paid apps and in-app purchases, 15% on the first $1 million a developer earns each year.

Bring those answers, along with who the app is for and the one thing it must do well, and we can give you a clear quote.

Our own apps.

DiscoverTCG is free on Google Play: it recognises trading cards with the camera, on the phone, and helps collectors find UK card shops with stock. Mossypips is our game for children aged 4 and up: one price, no adverts, nothing to buy inside the game, and grown-up areas behind a parental check. It’s available now on Google Play.

How a project runs.

You talk directly to the person building your app. We agree what it does, what it costs and when it’ll be ready before any work starts.

  • Talk: we agree what you need, what it costs and when it’ll be ready, before any work starts.
  • Design: you see the design and say what to change before we build it.
  • Build and launch: we build it, test it on phones and computers, and put it live.
  • Look after it: updates, fixes and backups carry on for as long as you’re with us.

02 /Questions

Things people usually ask.

How much does an Android app cost?

It depends on what it does, so it’s quoted per project. Once we understand the idea, you get a price and a timeline, and nothing starts until you’ve agreed them.

How long does it take?

It depends on the app. You get a timeline with the quote, and it’s agreed before anything starts, so you know when to plan your launch.

Do you build iPhone apps?

Our own apps launch on Android first. If you need iPhone as well, say so at the start: Flutter can build both from one codebase, and we’ll be clear about what the iPhone version adds.

Whose Google Play account should it be published under?

Yours, ideally, so the listing, reviews and income belong to your business. We can set it up with you and publish on your behalf.

Can you make a game for children?

Yes. Mossypips is ours: ad-free, no in-app purchases, no accounts or chat, with a narrator for children who can’t read yet. We know Google Play’s rules for apps aimed at children because we follow them.

Can you take over an app someone else started?

Often. Send us what you have and what’s wrong, and we’ll say honestly whether we’re the right people.
